The RIAA and MPAA have been complaining about piracy of music and movies for years. They've sued individual users for exorbitant amounts of money and were a huge part of the driving force of SOPA & PIPA (some would say they were the only driving force). Their profits have been cut into and that's stealing, and they're going to make sure that anyone caught pirating content will end up receiving as much punishment as possible.
PandoDaily--the tech news website started by former TechCrunch employee, Sarah Lacy, and staffed with several former TechCrunch writers--got a pretty big scoop yesterday , assuming it turns out to be accurate. According to "two sources familiar with the situation," IAC is considering an attempt to sell off their video property, Vimeo. The plan is to try and raise a $50 Million funding round, while spinning off Vimeo as part of the move.
Maybe Netflix was right after all.
