181 Million Americans Watch Over 40 Billion Videos Online In January

Big numbers continue to accumulate for online video according to comScore who say some 181 million Americans watched more than 40 billion videos in the month. Good for us! In the standard charts there's little movement, like always. Video lengths are up to 6.1 minutes per video on average and ads are still at 0.4 minutes.

It’s that time of the month again, when comScore puts out its Video Metrix numbers that show who is ruling the roost in online video. As expected, YouTube is still top dog and it seems that VEVO has cemented itself into the second post overall. YouTube Partner Reporting Coming This Summer From YouTube & comScore

Our pal Greg Jarboe over at Search Engine Watch grabbed a fantastic scoop Sunday while interviewing comScore’s Dan Piech: this summer YouTube and comScore will release a joint effort called YouTube Partner Reporting, which promises detailed analytic and demographic breakdowns of the various official YouTube Partner channels. YouTube Partners number around 40,000–give or take. They are the content producers, both amateur and professional, that have done so well with their video channels that they get special revenue and promotional arrangements with YouTube.

Is Online Video Dying? Comscore’s Video Metrix Says Fizzle in Feb

This doesn’t make much sense to me, but it seems like less people in the US (170M vs. 171M) started more video sessions (5B vs. 4.8B) in February than in January, and then watched for less time (816 vs 870 minutes) each.
